Ha thats funny, I havn't seen the tele coverage yet. I had a camera in my face a lot and said some stupid things, as thats all that seems to come out . The Bilstien 9100 shocks rock, you don't relise how good they are until you start laping the class 2 and 8 guys with standard shocks they are slow and all over the track. Big investment though!
Gordon and I won the winch class by 24 minutes over Tony White and Mike Graham cos our Range Rover didn't fall over or fall apart . Tony and Mike were 2minutes faster a lap than me, we pushed on saturday and backed of on Sunday as the breakages on the other vehicles were scattered about like monuments at a cemetary.
Things to change, the gearbox, as the gearing was way to tall it was in and out of 4th on the straights, engine not singing. Revalve the shocks to stop the rear bouncing, Look at using a manual box as the engine came with a very light flywheel that has not been used yet. Other than that, the truck can stay the same we lost about 50-60ks off its usual top speed due to gearing and ground resistance. That was such a cool race though, poor ol Roger Mc Kay and team. We passed Rogers truck broken lap after lap and I thought how heart breaking it would be to have not finished as the preparation going into the event is huge in $$ and time compared to winch challenge. The Range Rover is very economical only used 300 litres to do 900 Ks we took 500 litres to the track Doh! Rana was so cool to watch from my drivers seat ,he caught up to us after we stopped to pull Lindsay Dowlers truck of the track. He then pushed me along til Gordon said I was over driving, (scaring him) so I let him pass only to pass him shortly after as he rolled same happened again on Sunday. Rana rescued us on the Saturday as I drove of the track and got it stuck on its side in a bloody great hole so big thanks to Rana. Tony White caught us really quickly on Sunday, he went passed us about 20ks into the first lap, he was a lap down on us at this point and needed about 20 laps of the 56k course at 2mins a lap faster to catch up. So we figured that we slow up a bit and conserve the truck, thats when we let the 8th position go as he was visible on the straights for the early part of Sunday. I was looking forward to some close racing you know swaping a bit of paint like they do on the tele, however ,this was not to be. This type of event is definatly a race that requires a very carefuly planned vehicle conservation stratergy . Cheers darryn.
