Rule 26.25

Revert to old rule (CCDA / Mainland Winch Challenges rule)?

The proposal is to change the rule so that you can touch the rope when it is live but can't once it is under tension.
The current rule is easier to marshal but the old rule is a more realistic way of winching and why do we need to be different to everyone else?

This seems to make more sense to me ,under current rules when we are setting up a double line pull as most when conecting the pully block use a shackle and hold on to either the block or rope when doing up the pin or positioning the tree protector up high on a tree arent we also still handling a live cable?

what do you do if the hazard is steep and there is a possibility for the vehicle to suddenly slip back and the co driver has the cable in his hand and it's connected to the anchor point. To write a rule for different occasions will become too confusing.

I think the rule works as it is really, double line pulls are allways slow to set up.

We once had the CCDA rule, but changed it to what it is now to make things simpler for both competitors and marshals. But it didn't only made things simpler, it made things safer, which is probably the important thing to consider here. Sure it may not be quite like we do things in everyday club activities, but the pressure of competition can cause all sorts of mistakes so I think the extra safety barrier is a good thing.
