may have already been asked by someone previously, is it going to be a camping thing or is there civilisation around the competition site in the form of motels/hotels?

a quick message to anybody interested, i had a phone call from the organiser of NWC 2010 the other day, there are plaenty of motels around the place to stay for the duration of the event, and he recommends that people tow their trucks down as competition is 1.5hours out of town for some stages, so unless you want to drive your truck out to the comp sites on the road, towing is the best idea.

People that want to hire or rent transporters to take their trucks down, he said you can leave your trucks at his workshop untill you arrive down there if this is the case, and he is planning on making his workshop available for repairs if needed.

Regarding accommodation - there are plenty of choices in Blenheim to suit all budgets. The main venue at Mt Riley is about 20min drive from Blenheim.

Vehicles and trailers can be left at Mt Riley, and a limited workshop is also available. Some competitors will be camping on-site so will provide reasonable security. This option is only available if you are fully self-contained as there are no proper camping facilities available. It also needs to be specifically approved with the landowner.

Sunday will be hosted by the Nelson 4WD Club at Kikiwa near Lake Rotoiti which is about an hour and a half on the open road. Directions:

Please note that tyre sizes will be measured and strictly enforced. Over 36.5in and you will not be permitted to drive the courses!

A couple of recent changes to published information:

Change to the Club Class rules - steel winch cable will not be permitted!

We have arranged to use the new "Events Centre" in Renwick as the social base for the Winch Challenge. It will now be the venue for the Scrutineering and Prizegiving, and will also have a bar open for our use each evening. There are toilet and shower facilities, and camping available on site at a cost of $20 per person per day. There is also hotel and motel accommodation available in Renwick at reasonable cost, all within easy walking distance from the Events Centre. The Events Centre is located at the Renwick Sports Grounds, with access off Uxbridge Street.

It is strongly recommended that all entrants read the rules on the Mainland Winch Challenges website http://www.mainlandwinchchallenges.co.nz/

Particularly note the rule interpretation regarding "Cable under Tension".
Also, while only a 4-point roll cage is required, it must meet the required construction specifications, specifically including a diagonal cross-brace.
