History of Winch Challenges

John Walker gave a run down on the events from beginning in 2000. In 2002 Auckland Club ran event with Denny’s as major sponsor.
2003 and 2004 events.
Lot of rule changes over the years to improve the event.
Rules committee with good cross section of people.
Fought hard to keep road legal concept. Good for sponsors.
With big turnover got in trouble with tax dept, therefore 4 x 4 Challenges was started and GST registered. Minimum sub initially of $2. In 2003, Craig approached club to run first Kiwi Challenge.
John introduced the rules committee. Concern about the Sth Island events being run under national rules without contact of 4 x 4 Challenges.

Log books

Vehicles will be audited to ensure they conform. Get away from scrutineering as a term and use audit. Ready to go very soon.
Will cost $20. Will include photo of vehicle.

License fee

Will not be instituted at this stage.

Nearly up and running. Will include a forum. Should be ready next week.

Why should you join

Challenges are a club. Under the NZFWDA.
Organisers of event can run events under 4 x 4 challenges.
Will there be a cost to clubs?

Series decision

Discussion about how to co-ordinate a complete series. Whangarei club event to go ahead but not part of series.
